Sustainable Farming and BioGas Production Project
Sabon Pegi Shabu, Nasarawa State, Nigeria
This Sustainable Farming and BioGas Production Project aims to boost agricultural productivity and sustainability by implementing modern storage facilities for biogas and biofertilizer production. This initiative addresses local challenges like post-harvest losses and limited sustainable practices, fostering economic growth and environmental conservation. Community involvement in planning and maintaining the project will ensure its effectiveness and sustainability.
Through the support of a Purpose Earth grant, the project is now able to purchase and install biodigester(s), crucial for converting organic waste into biogas and biofertilizers. This sustainable technology will enhance soil fertility and reduce dependency on chemical fertilizers. Funds will also be allocated toward constructing storage facilities to minimize post-harvest losses and the procurement of high-quality seeds for groundnuts, soya beans, and melons. The grant funding also enables the purchase of biofertilizers produced and necessary farming tools and equipment. Workshops and training sessions on sustainable farming techniques, biodigester operation, and effective post-harvest management will build local capacity and empower farmers with the knowledge to optimize their farming practices.
“This project is designed, not only to address immediate agricultural challenges in Sabon Pegi Shabu, but also to create lasting impact through sustainable farming practices and community empowerment. The funding will enable us to implement crucial infrastructure, provide necessary training, and engage local farmers in a sustainable agricultural model that enhances food security and economic resilience. The support from Purpose Earth will catalyze our efforts to scale up these innovations and replicate them in other regions, maximizing the project's impact beyond our initial community.” – Asmau Garba, Project Lead
